Calling a repair person can be very costly, especially for simple tasks such as replacing a toilet part or installing a new faucet. You’ll pay a handyman or repair person not only the cost to fix or upgrade your home, but also a trip charge just for showing up.
If you are not sure how to tackle some of your projects, you can attend do it yourself classes absolutely FREE.
Many home improvement stores such as Home Depot, Lowes and Menards offer free do-it-yourself classes. All of these stores post classes by location on their websites. Aside from simple repair classes, you’ll find classes for just about every type of home remodeling project you want to learn how to do.
My local home improvement store has upcoming classes for tile installation, installing shiplap walls, how to update your bathroom and more. They generally hold the classes on Saturdays and Sundays and offer hands-on training with an expert instructor. These classes are fun for the whole family and you’ll also find classes for kids!
The upcoming events for kids at my local improvement store including building a candy heart box and how to make a clock. They often offer freebies to kids during these classes as well. This is a great way to get your child started as a do-it-yourselfer at a young age. You can also shop while your child has fun building and learning!
If you want to learn a little bit about how to do just about anything, volunteer. Many organizations need volunteers to help with everything from repairing homes to building homes. They also have professionals that volunteer or are on staff.
These professionals teach other volunteers’ skills so they can be of more help. I love this option as I get to pay it forward and learn at the same time. Online video portals are another great place to learn. You can search for how-to videos for every type of project or repair that you can think of.
