4 Things You Can Upcycle and Save

You can save money just by taking a look around your own home. You don’t even need to be crafty or handy to turn most garbage into something useful.

Not only will upcycling save you money, but it will also help keep the environment clean. There are also a lot of places to find free items you can upcycle to your needs.

Wrapping Paper

You’ll be the talk of the party with a gift wrapped in your own special way. The gift receiver will also love it because it shows you put thought into not only their gift – but the way you wrapped it! Take a look in your closets, cupboards, linen closet and trash to find perfect items for gift wrapping.

You can use anything from old linens (one of my favorites as if I have a pesky stain, I can wrap multiple gifts from the non-stained areas that turn out gorgeous!), newspaper, mailing paper, old boxes, labels, jars and more! Just look around and you’ll never buy wrapping paper again!

Planters

No need to buy seed starter trays again! Use old Styrofoam and plastic cups to start growing your seeds before planting outdoors. You can even wash them out and use them year after year!

Organizers

The list can go on and on for this one! Don’t throw out your pickle jars, candle jars, boxes, food containers or shoe boxes. Turn these items into organizers to store screws and nails, use as drawer dividers, receipt holders and leftover food storage.

Ice Cube Trays

There are so many uses for ice cube trays! I have had fresh herbs go bad so many times I can’t even count them. Now I simply freeze my leftover herbs in olive oil in ice cube trays and I don’t have to throw them away!

If you like ice coffee, you can freeze the coffee left over in the pot each day in ice cube trays. Add a little milk when you are ready for a fantastic iced coffee and it won’t be watered down!

You can also freeze a number of other food items like buttermilk, baby food, tomato sauce and more. No more wasted food!
